15 Jewelry Charms Found Metal Detecting

Found February 6th, 2023 at the Ohio Riverfront by BHiggles

The sun shone bright again on this glorious day! A tinder little breeze warm and southern provided me with another outstanding chance of discovering treasures while metal detecting with the Minelab Equinox 800 metal detector. I used the 11 inch default coil, Park 1 default settings and a very very minimal sensitivity setting of 10 today. I use this very low sensitivity when I am at a location where I do not want to dig holes, but find targets very near the surface causing as little damage as possible.

The lower sensitivity, for me, allows me to easily target items just under the surface and down to about an inch or two maximum. I often use this technique to help clear very trashy areas at a park or soccer fields too.
The location was choice! A highly used public area at the old locks and dam. This riverfront access has much history and the grounds surrounding are stuffed full of wonderful treasures. For many years there have been fairs, fireworks, weddings, social gatherings and more at this historic part of town.

I remember as a child sledding on the hill across the street and fairs and 4th of July celebrations while eating wonderfully delicious fair treats right on the riverfront on the mighty Ohio River! Today, in this area, I hit a home run! A discovered cache of jewelry trinkets. 15 of them in 1 area! These are not precious trinkets, but sure were fun to dig! These rang up very low on the Equinox, right around a 3-7 VDI. Once on target, I just used my Garrett Pro Pointer AT pin pointer to find the others.

I met a detectorist!

I met a new detectorist today too. A nice man, name of Bill. He too, runs a Minelab Equinox. I have only met 2 metal detectorists in my first 2 years of metal detecting and both of them are named Bill. Bill 2 and I talked a bit, showed off some of our treasure pictures and then we split up to find more discoveries. Immediately, I scored a nice little ring with an anchor on it and rushed over to show Bill. Then Bill hits the mother load of jewelry trinkets. Soon Bill’s pin pointer battery gave up from digging so many trinkets and he headed home whooped but HAPPY! After this I went in to wrap up. Scoring 15 jewelry charms detecting in addition to the ones he found before me. My brain is instantly triggered back to the days of the fairs and booths setup all along the grassy areas. Someone spilled the jewelry display!!!!!
