YES! INDEED! Finally metal detecting with the Minelab Equinox 800 after a week-long break.  Quarter Hill is the place to be on a Sunday hunt and school metal detecting always brings great joy. This hobby found me on February 22nd, 2021 at the same school. Just 2 short years ago.

The sun warmed the day, melting the last of the snow. Treasure hunting just got started and up from the ground comes a 1905 Indian Head penny (IHP)!! This coin, minted from 1859 to 1909, is a cherished find among metal detectorists.  HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE IT?

The Indian Head penny, also known as the Indian Head cent, holds a special place in the hearts of those who love metal detecting. Hobbyists spend hours searching parks, beaches, and other public places for these coins, making the IHP a highly sought-after find. It symbolizes a transition in the United States, from a growing country to an industrial powerhouse.
Obviously this coin’s intricate design, featuring Lady Liberty in a feathered headdress and an oak wreath with a Union Shield on the reverse, showcases the talent of designer James B. Longacre. Collectors prize the IHP for its beauty and value. Finding another is an honor!

Keep swinging that detector!

As a matter of fact, finding an IHP is not just a financial win for metal detectorists, but a personal victory. The satisfaction of discovering a piece of history that’s been lost for decades makes all the hard work worthwhile. Whether it’s added to a personal collection or sold, the IHP is a valuable and important find for any metal detecting enthusiast.

So, if you’re a metal detectorist, keep an eye out for this elusive treasure. And if you’re not, take a moment to appreciate the significance of the IHP and the joy it brings to those who are lucky enough to find it.   Read More Blogs!
