Original Brenneke Shotgun Slug found metal detecting.

Today, feeling very adventurous, me and Shane from Ohio River History headed to the 1955 drive in to do some more metal detecting.  Research on the drive in proves there is at least 1, and maybe 3 homesteads, that used to be right on the edge of this private permission. On this day, we are determined to get a good sense where at least one of these late 1800’s, early 1900’s homesteads once stood.

Clipped musket ball found metal detecting

The very last hole of the day, for me, was this Original Brenneke Shotgun slug. As you can see it has the lovely white patina and is definitely made of lead. Upon further examination, there should be a flat-head screw. As you can see, the one I found looks more like a square nail. Regardless, we both believe this is an historic 1920’s version.

Earlier in the day, a musket ball was also discovered! This is definitely telling me we are getting closer to a homestead location!
